Welcome to Our Website
The following are the 3 different Learning styles which we are focusing on this year.
About:
Reaching for the Rainbow is a Service Learning Project done by 6 enthusiastic students from Hwa Chong Institution (High School Section). The project aims to give primary school students from low income families the opportunity to join a tuition class and allow them to catch up on their studies.
This project would go on from 2006 - 2008, seeing the same class of students from Primary 4 till their Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) in 2008.
To make the project more focused, we have developed a 3-year focus:
1st Year - Fun in Learning 2nd Year - Activating the Desire to Learn through Learning Styles 3rd Year - Preparation for PSLE
Currently in our second year, we have introduced a new dimension to our project. This year, we aim to Activate the Desire to Learn Through Learning Styles.

The Community:
We are currently working at the Teck Ghee Community Center in Ang Mo Kio, where the Community Center has offered us tremendous help over the past 20 months as well as provided us with much needed facilities.
Target Group:
Our target group is Primary School Students from low income families. This is as the project aims at providing the opportunity for these students to go for tuition classes.
Buddy Tutors:
The Buddy Tutors are namely Lee Tse An, Lin Zhi Yong, Aw Jian Wei, Tseng Pei Wei, Felix Lee and Chang Rui Yi. Each buddy tutor has his distinct and unique teaching style which in turn caters to the different learning styles and learning habits of the tutees in the class.
Tutees:
There are a total of 30 students in our class. They are mainly from Townsville Primary School as well as Teck Ghee Primary School. Whilst the tutees may not be exceptionally bright students, they demonstrate the will and enthusiasm to learn. Although examination results have shown that our tutees are not inclined to studying, our interaction with them has only proven otherwise.
Mentors:
We have 2 mentors, one of which is from Hwa Chong Institution. We also have an external mentor, Mr Haniff, who is currently teaching at Naval Base Primary School. Our mentors have not only guided us thus far, but along the way, they have given us invaluable advice and taught us several lessons. More importantly, they have helped us better communicate with the tutees as buddies.
